On Wednesday, July 28, 2021, three GU students were enrolled in Indian side of International Joint Master’s Degree Program in Food Science and Technology between Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati and Gifu University (JMD FST program). These students made their first step forward to obtain International Joint Degree of Master of Technology in Food Science and Technology together with the IITG students.
The International Joint Master’s Degree Program in Food Science and Technology between Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati and Gifu University is one of the four international joint degree programs launched in 2019 with IITG and the National University of Malaysia (UKM, Malaysia).
The third batch of Gifu JMD students of this program has been engaged in attending lectures and conducting research activities from this April. They were supposed to study at IITG from this July, but the COVID-19 pandemic still makes it impossible for them to study abroad.
On July 28, three GU and five IITG students and academic staff of the program took part in an online entrance ceremony and an orientation. First, the program overview was given to the students, which was followed by students’ self-introduction. Prof. Anugrah Singh (Head of Department, Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Guwahati and Chair of JMD FST program) offered the following word of encouragement for the students; “I sincerely hope for your great success in your studies through mutual encouragement among classmates. If you have any worries or questions, please feel free to ask us. You are already one of our family members.”
GU students will attend online classes by the end of November and be engaged in research work under joint supervision from IITG and GU supervisors. They are expected to finish the curriculum and acquire their master’s degree in March 2023.
