Associate Professor YAMAUCHI Kosei visited IITG, India

On Friday, September 15 and Saturday, September 16, 2023, Associate Professor YAMAUCHI Kosei of the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences, Gifu University (GU) visited IITG (the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, India) and gave a lecture on ingredients in natural products and the mechanisms of biological activity.
Dr. Yamauchi was invited to IITG under the "Inter-University Exchange Project -Indo-Pacific Region-" of MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan). The project aims to reinforce education and research partnership between GU and IITG in the field of life sciences.

In the lecture, Dr. Yamauchi presented his latest research on the exploration of ingredients in natural products and the mechanisms of biological activity. Many students and academic staff members from the departments of chemical engineering, and biosciences and bioengineering at IITG attended his lecture. This lecture was followed by an active question and answer session. Dr. Yamauchi also had an opportunity to discuss a new international joint research project with IITG members.

Mr. TAGA Yusuke, who is the first Japanese student studying in the "International Joint Department of Food Science and Technology between IITG and GU (PhD program)" at IITG, held a talk with Dr. Yamauchi and Professor Rakhi Chaturvedi from IITG.

Students studying the international joint degree programs are enrolled in both IITG and GU, and they study at the partner university overseas for a fixed period within the three-year program. They attend classes and engage in research activities abroad and can obtain an international joint degree certificate from IITG and GU without extending their years of study at their home university.

Dr. Yamauchi and Professor Rakhi are jointly supervising Mr. Taga's research work. During the meeting, Mr. Taga explained the progress in his research work at IITG and his future research plan.

Mr. Taga has been studying the separation of plant pigments, their structure analysis, and the discoloration mechanism at GU. On the other hand, he is working on plant cell cultivation at the laboratory of IITG. He started his study at IITG in April 2023 and is scheduled to stay there until March 2024. At IITG, Mr. Taga is surrounded by fellow research students and is enjoying his life in India.
