On Thursday, October 12, 2023, the Gifu University Organization for Promotion of Glocalization (GU-GLOCAL) hosted the "Bab al-islam Masjid (Gifu Mosque) Observation Tour," as part of the "International Month 2023." The tour was realized by the kind support and understanding from the members of the Gifu Mosque.
Seven Gifu University (GU) staff members in charge of international affairs attended the tour. Muslim Instructor, Mr. Obari Abdulkader, invited the members to observe the prayer hall, the library, and other spaces within the mosque. In the prayer hall, Mr. Obari explained the Muslim prayers (times, direction, different spaces between men and women) and answered questions from the members.
In the library, the GU members were given an opportunity to look at Koran and its translated versions. They also learned how to write and read the Arabic letters, the teachings of Isram and life of Muslims (dietary habits and rules for worshipping).
The Muslim population in Japan keeps on increasing year on year and the GU staff have more opportunity to get acquainted with Muslim students on campus. The Gifu Mosque Observation Tour gave the members a new insight about the world of Muslims and helped the members to develop their understanding about Muslims culture, history, and life.
GU-GLOCAL continues to carry out various programs to promote international understanding among students and the staff members.
