“Namaste Japan Education Interaction 2023” at IITG and “IITH Academic Day” at IITH, India

Gifu University members attended the "Namaste Japan Education Interaction 2023" held at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) on Saturday, September 16. They also attended the "IITH Academic Day" at the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) on Monday, September 18.

Since 2019, IITG has been Gifu University's partner university overseas in implementing the joint degree programs ("JDP") in food science and technology, and integrated mechanical engineering.
The "Namaste Japan Education Interaction 2023" was co-hosted by IITG, The University of Tokyo, and Gifu University. Representatives from five Japanese universities, including Gifu University, officials from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (MEXT), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) attended this study abroad fair. During the fair, a wide range of information concerning studying and living in Japan was shared with the participants It included unique study-abroad programs that the five Japanese universities are offering to international students.
The MEXT officials made a presentation on their scholarship programs available for government-funded international students, and the advantages of studying in Japan for the prospective students in IITG. This was followed by presentations by the members of JICA^1) and JETRO^2) concerning their activities in India.
On behalf of Gifu University, Professor Ebihara Akio, Associate Director of Gifu University Organization for Promotion of Glocalization, delivered a speech on three JDP programs and a six-month internship program ("sandwich program") of Gifu University to welcome IITG students to Gifu University in the future. Later, IITG students who hade completed their JDP studies at Gifu University shared their firsthand experiences studying in Japan (attending classes, engaging in research and cultural activities, and travelling) which drew a lot of attentions from the audience. On September 18, the representatives from six Japanese universities including Gifu University, officials from the MEXT, the JICA, the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), and the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), attended the "IITH Academic Day" at IITH. They introduced study abroad programs, MEXT scholarships, and exchange and partnership initiatives between Japan and India that have been promoted by JICA, JST and NEDO through presentations. Exhibition booths were also set up on campus to highlight the programs of each organization.
In the presentation, Gifu University representatives focused on promoting JDP and internship programs aiming to attract more Indian students to study at Gifu University in the future. In the booth, Gifu University members received many questions from undergraduate and master's degree students at IITH about the study programs and scholarships available.

Gifu University continues to work closely with other universities in Japan including The University of Tokyo India Office, to provide the Indian students information about Japan and to send a strong message that Japan is one of the best destinations for studies and research activities for students in India.

Besides attending the two study abroad fairs, Gifu University members discussed the "Joint-International Certificate" platform of the "FY2022 Inter-University Exchange Project" by MEXT with the officials from IITG. Additionally, Associate Professor YAMAUCHI Kosei from the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences gave a lecture on ingredients in natural products and mechanisms of biological activity.
Meanwhile, at IITH, Gifu University members were invited to attend sessions for exchanging opinions and gathering information for the promotion of partnership between Gifu University and IITH.
