Six academic staff from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) visited Gifu University from Wednesday, March 7 to Friday, March 10, 2023 and held talks on the new Global Innovate Leaders Program (GILP) to be jointly launched by IITG and GU, as well as the possibilities of deepening research collaboration between the two universities. Their visit was realized as a part of the "FY2022 Inter-University Exchange Project Gifu University: Support for Creation of Inter-University Exchanges in the Indo-Pacific Region" by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (the project has been implemented by GU and IITG, one of GU's Joint Degree Programs' (JDP^1) overseas partner universities).
One of the objectives of the Inter-University Exchange Project is to start the new "Joint-International Certificate (for master's degree students)" system under GILP to cultivate highly skilled glocal (global + local) personnel in the fields of disaster management, sustainable technology and food supply chain. To achieve this objective, both universities utilize the current framework for collaboration among industry-government-academia and banking institutions in Japan and India with JDP as a crucial basis for collaboration.
In the meeting, IITG and GU staff exchanged opinions concerning necessary steps and challenges ahead before the start of GILP and the new certificate system.
During their visit to GU, IITG staff also met with the members of the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences, and shared their views on the future and potential of joint research projects.
On Thursday, March 9 and Friday, March 10, a webinar titled, "Gifu University GILP Symposium 2023: A lecture series on: Food Supply Chain, Disaster Management & Mechanical Engineering" was jointly organized by JDP students of GU and IITG. Visiting IITG staff was invited to deliver a lecture for the symposium.
We continue to work for developing highly skilled professionals, and contribute to facilitating the strong growth of local and global communities with "Glocal JDP Platform" as a driving force.
1) JDP: four international joint degree programs (master's and PhD) jointly launched by GU, IITG and the National University of Malaysia in April 2019.
