From Wednesday, December 21, 2022 to Monday, December 26, 2022, four professors from Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG, India), Dr. Vaibhav V. Goud, Dr. Sudip Mitra, Dr. S. Kanagaraj and Dr. Chandan Das paid a courtesy visit to Gifu University.
Gifu University is currently carrying out "Education for Highly-Skilled Human Resources in Northeast India and Tokai Area based on Glocal JDP* Platform" program adopted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (MEXT, “FY2022 Inter-University Exchange Project Gifu University: Support for Creation of Inter-University Exchanges in the Indo-Pacific Region"). Under this program, industry-government-academia collaboration has been actively promoted by Gifu University, IITG, people in Gifu Prefecture, Tokai Area (extensive central part of Japan including Gifu), and Northeast India. Visit of four professors from India to Gifu University were also financed by the program.
*JDP: Joint Degree Programs (international master's and doctoral degrees)
Major objective of the aforementioned "Education for Highly-Skilled Human Resources in Northeast India and Tokai Area based on Glocal JDP Platform" program is to create a new platform to confer Joint-International Certificate (master's degree) on program graduates with an eye to cultivating highly skilled glocal (global + local) young talents. To this end, Gifu University continues to collaborate with IITG through industry-government-academia-banking institution partnership ("JDP Consortium") with JDP playing a pivotal role.
In the meeting on Thursday, December 22, President YOSHIDA Kazuhiro, IITG and GU professors exchanged their views on importance of, and expectations for jointly creating a new platform for Joint-International Certificate based on experiences and achievements that two universities have attained since launching of JDP in 2019.
After the meeting with President Yoshida, IITG professors also held talks with Professor MURAI Toshiaki (Dean of the Faculty of Engineering), Professor MITSUNAGA Tohru (Dean of the Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences), Professor SAWADA Kazuhide (Director of the Center for Infrastructure Asset Management Technology and Research), and Professor NOJIMA Nobuoto (Director of the Regional Disaster Mitigation Research Center, Institute for Advanced Study) in a separate meeting. They shared their thoughts on goals, missions for a new platform, and agreed with continued cooperation for its implementation in both universities.
In the last meeting that took place between IITG and GU professors, they focused on discussing how to overcome challenges to establish a new platform so that program graduates can receive their certificates specifically in the fields of food distribution, disaster prevention and mitigation, environmentally sustainable technology, etc.
The JDP symposium and a meeting for further discussions on Joint-International Certificate platform is scheduled at IITG in March, 2023. We continue working for a successful conclusion of our "Education for Highly-Skilled Human Resources in Northeast India and Tokai Area based on Glocal JDP Platform" program within the framework of "Inter-University Exchange Project Gifu University" of MEXT.
