Winter School Program* 2022 kicks off

Gifu University Organization for Promotion of Glocalization (GU-GLOCAL) resumed a short-term inbound program, "Winter School Program" which was suspended since 2020 due to an outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in 2019.

In the 6th Winter School Program 2022, six students from Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IITG, India), and two students from the National University of Malaysia (UKM) are joining the program from Monday, December 12 through Monday, December 26, 2022. These two universities are Gifu University’s overseas partner universities for Joint Degree Programs (JDP, international PhD and Master’s degrees) launched in April 2019.

The 6th Winter School Program focuses on the theme "Gifu, home to pottery making." Eight students study pottery making and pottery businesses in Gifu Prefecture and in Japan, use their scientific knowledge to understand methods of pot creation, materials used, etc. which are quite different depending on areas of production. They were also invited to experience traditional pot making in Tajimi City (eastern part of Gifu) and join a company inspection to study more about today’s pottery businesses in Japan.

In addition, students study Japanese language, take part in cultural activities, attend lectures on Japanese corporate environment and regional affairs during their two-week stay in Japan.

On the final day of the program on Monday, December 26, students are going to make a presentation on what they have learned from the Winter School Program 2022.

*Winter School Program is supported by "Inter-University Exchange Project" of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan.
