On Friday, October 18, 2024, delegation from Andalas University (Unand) in Indonesia, visited Gifu University. The delegation members included Dr. Efa Yonnedi, SE. MPPM, Akt, CA, CRGP, President of Unand, Prof. Dr. Syukri Arief, M.Eng, Vice Chancellor I (Education and Student Affairs), who is a graduate of the Graduate School of Engineering, Gifu University, and Prof. Dr. Erizal Mukhtar, Head of the biology study program. Gifu University and Unand have been engaging in exchanges since the 1990s, starting with the Faculty of Engineering (mainly in the field of chemistry), and signed an inter-university academic exchange agreement in April 2001. Currently, the United Graduate School of Agricultural Science (UGSAS) of Gifu University and Unand have been implementing the Dual Ph.D. Degree Program. Furthermore, Unand is a crucial member of UGSAS-GU Symposium & Roundtable, an international conference hosted by UGSAS over the years.
During this visit, first, Dr. Efa Yonnedi introduced himself as the new Unand president to the university members of the board. The delegation then kindly handed them the signed agreement for the renewal of the inter-university academic exchange. In the courtesy visit to the President, President YOSHIDA Kazuhiro touched on the over 20-year history of partnership with Unand. This was followed by an active exchange of opinions about future prospects, including promoting research collaboration in fields other than agriculture and engineering.
After the meeting, Unand delegation toured the Faculty of Engineering building and had a discussion with Unand graduates studying at Gifu University in a seminar room. Currently, there are 14 Unand graduates studying and conducting research at Gifu University to obtain their degrees. After that, the delegation and students went to Bab al-islam Masjid Gifu & The Muslim Culture Center near campus to offer Islamic prayers. They also visited the only halal bakery in Gifu City. The owner of this bakery is also a graduate of Gifu University.
Gifu University will continue to deepen its collaboration with Unand and accelerate future educational and research exchanges.
