On Friday, November 5, 2021, Mr. Algimantas Misevičius, Chargés d'Affaires ad interim of the Republic of Lithuania paid a courtesy call on Gifu University.
In the Office of the President, the Chargés d'Affaires exchanged opinions with President Hisataka Moriwaki, Vice President Makoto Sugiyama (General Manager and International Affairs), Vice President Hirokazu Fukui (Planning, Academic Affairs, Evaluation and Fund), Professor Yoshihiko Uematsu, Executive Director of GU-GLOCAL and Associate Professor Tetsuya Mouri, the Faculty of Engineering. They discussed relationship between Gifu University and Lithuania including partnership between GU and universities in Lithuania, current state of student exchange programs, President of the Republic of Lithuania, Dr. Gitanas Nausėda’s visit to GU in October, 2019 as well as future collaboration between GU and its partnership universities in Lithuania.
After the meeting, the Chargés d'Affaires was invited to join the meeting with the GU students at the General Education Building on campus. Students who are studying “cross-culture theory (study on Lithuania)” and the Chargés d'Affaires viewed the video footage created by the students which is showcasing unique culture and nature of both Japan and Lithuania. It was followed by a speech of the Chargěs d'Affaires and Q & A session. He spoke about the long history of exchange between Gifu Prefecture and Lithuania. Many questions were raised from the students such as cultural differences and similarities between the two countries, impressions about GU, etc. Students who are wishing to study in Lithuania were listening to his talk with great interest and gained some insights into the life in Lithuania.
Gifu University signed the university-level exchange agreement with Kaunas University of Technology in April 2010, with Vytautas Magnus University in January 2012 respectively. Since the conclusion of agreements, active exchanges between students and faculty are continuing to date. We are hoping that our strong, enduring friendship with these two institutions keeps on flourishing for the benefits of students and faculty at GU and Lithuania in the years to come.
