GU and IITG students start their studies for Joint Degree Programs

On Wednesday, April 5, 2023, the AY 2023 orientation for the "International Joint Department of Food Science and Technology between Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati and Gifu University (master's program)" was conducted for the newly enrolled three Gifu University students and four students from Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG). Four IITG students are the second cohort to study at Gifu University after the COVID-19 pandemic broke out.

Students who study the Joint Degree Programs (JDP) are enrolled both in Gifu University and its overseas partner universities. Students are given an opportunity to study at the partner universities for a set period of months before completing their studies of the program (program term for master's: a total of two years). Students attend classes, engage in research activities overseas, and study to obtain a diploma for international joint degrees from both Gifu University and the partner universities without extending their term of enrollment.

Three GU students study at Gifu University from April till mid-July this year, and study at IITG for five months from late July. On the other hand, four IITG students study at Gifu University for five months from April till late August. They attend classes, conduct research activities at laboratories under the supervision of Gifu University academic staff. They also have a chance to take part in internship programs offered by Japanese companies. GU and IITG students study together face-to-face at Gifu University by mid-July and will strive together in pursuance of a common goal, namely, obtaining a diploma for international joint degree programs.

IITG students are to be supported by the Student Exchange Support Program (Scholarship for Study in Japan under Agreement) 2023 of the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO).
