On Tuesday, June 9, 2026, the members of Gifu University Organization for Promotion of Glocalization (GU-GLOCAL), together with the representatives of four companies participating in the JDP Consortium (an industry-government-academia-banking collaborative consortium) visited the Trade Policy Bureau of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), as well as the headquarters of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). During the visits, they exchanged information on Gifu University's recent activities and the participating companies’ overseas business developments, particularly in Asia and India.
The participating companies are Taiyo Kagaku Co., Ltd., Ichimaru Pharcos Co., Ltd., Sinfornia Technology Co., Ltd., and Toho Koki Seisakusho Co., Ltd.
Specially Appointed Professor MIWA Shinichi and Visiting Professor KURACHI Hiroshi from GU-GLOCAL gave presentations on the Gifu JDP Symposium, collaborative activities with the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG, India), and the latest developments in the industry-government-academia-banking collaborative consortium. The representatives of four companies also introduced their businesses, outlining their operations in India and initiatives related to highly skilled international human resource development.
Gifu University highlighted, in particular, its joint degree program (JDP) among Japan, India, and Malaysia, its support activities for international students' employment, and its joint efforts with IITG to develop educational programs in advanced technology fields such as AI, which are open to working professionals as well. Regarding regional industry-government-academia-banking collaboration, Gifu University explained that at the JDP Symposium held at IITG in March 2026, it established the "NER-Japan International Academic and Research Consortium." Under this consortium, Gifu University has expanded partnerships with 20 universities in Northeast India and is promoting Japan–India regional development and collaboration among industry, government, and academia through direct engagement with the Government of Assam.
Mr. WATANABE Ikko, Director for India and Pacific Region, Asia and Pacific Division, Trade Policy Bureau, METI, commented that IITG expressed expectations for various initiatives that Gifu University is undertaking as a hub for human resources and technology. Mr. Watanabe also noted that the four companies’ reports provided valuable insights for addressing developments in Asia and India and mentioned the possibility of support from METI and related ministries. In addition, officials from the Planning Department of JETRO and the South Asia Division of JICA expressed positive views on overseas expansion by Gifu University and the JDP Consortium members to India and initiatives related to highly skilled human resource development.
Gifu University will continue visiting and exchanging information with METI, JETRO, and JICA to share the latest development of our international collaboration efforts in the days to come.
