Professor Hiroyuki Koyama attended “The Third Symposium of JIEPP" organized by the University of Tokyo

On Friday, March 5, 2021, Professor Hiroyuki Koyama, Associate Director of GU-GLOCAL attended “The Third Symposium of Japan India Exchange Platform Program (JIEPP, funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT)).” The symposium was hosted online by the University of Tokyo.

Under the theme, “Global Development of India-Academia Collaboration: The Importance of Japan-India Exchange,” participants from various communities who are responsible for industry, government and academia alliances between Japan and India, assembled together online, and exchanged their views on the roles to be played by universities/colleges in view of the state of Japan-India partnership.

Professor Koyama made his presentation on Joint Degree (JD, master’s and doctoral degrees) programs with Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, as well as active exchanges between Japan and India regarding industry-government-academia-banking collaboration with North Eastern Region of India. JD programs are playing a pivotal role in this collaboration.

In the following discussion session, a wide range of opinions were expressed by the participants representing universities, local municipalities and the private sector who are in charge of promoting Japan and India collaboration. Among others, they shared their thoughts about different ways of thinking, cultures and methods to use to get things done, etc. by people in Japan and India. At the end of the symposium, they concluded that both Japan and India could jointly seek economic and academic growth and prosperity by taking full advantage of the strengths of respective countries.
