Field Verification of Tourism Plans Conducted in Collaboration with the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism, Hue University, Vietnam

As part of the university-wide general education course (zenkyo) "Glocal Leadership Practice II," offered by GU-GLOCAL and the Center for Collaborative Study with Community at Gifu University, students worked together with students from the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism, Hue University in Vietnam to develop a tourism plan for an extended stay in Hue and to conduct on-site verification.

The Gifu Prefectural Government and Thua Thien–Hue Province (currently Hue City) signed a friendship partnership agreement in November 2016 and have since promoted exchanges in various fields. In line with this, Gifu University and Hue University concluded an academic exchange agreement in 2018, and the activities in this course are implemented as an educational program based on that agreement.

In this course, Gifu University students began online exchanges in early December 2025 with students from the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism, Hue University. Over several months, they collaboratively worked on developing a three-day tourism plan for young Japanese travelers to stay in Hue. For the field verification of this plan, six Gifu University students visited Hue City via Da Nang and Hoi An from Wednesday, March 4 to Saturday, March 14, 2026, for a total of ten days. While visiting various sites in the region, they examined tourism experiences and routes that would attract Japanese tourists visiting Da Nang to extend their stay and spend nights in Hue.

During their stay, Ms. Duong Thi Thu Truyen, Deputy Director, Hue City Department of Tourism, delivered a lecture on tourism policies, tourism resources, and current visitor trends in Hue, deepening students' understanding of local tourism strategies.

On the final day, an online presentation of outcomes was held with the participation of Ms. Eri Seto, Assistant Director & Section Manager of the International Exchange Division, Gifu Prefectural Government, and Vice President LIM Lee Wah (Global Outreach and Gifu Prefectural government Engagement) of Gifu University. Students presented enhanced versions of their Hue stay–oriented tourism plans, refined through their on-site experiences, and engaged in active discussions.

Gifu University will continue to promote the development of human resources capable of proactively addressing challenges associated with the internationalization of local communities through such international collaborative educational programs. This initiative is also expected to further advance student exchanges between Gifu University and Hue University, as well as strengthen ties between Gifu Prefecture and Hue City.
