On January 7, 2026, Gifu University welcomed a six-member delegation from the Center for Student Affairs of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (HEP-UKM), led by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Student Affairs and Alumni, Prof. Ts Dr. Norinsan Kamil Othman. This visit was prompted by discussions on training programs related to the overseas practical training for staff scheduled to take place at UKM in February 2026. In conjunction with the delegation’s visit to Japan, Gifu University was added as one of their destinations. UKM is also an important overseas partner institution for Gifu University in implementation of Joint Degree Program since its launch in 2019.

During the courtesy visit to President YOSHIDA Kazuhiro, it was noted that in September 2025, President Yoshida visited UKM, where he met with UKM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Sufian Jusoh, toured the Faculty of Science and Technology, and visited the university hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine. The visit included discussions on expanding exchanges between students, researchers, and faculty members of both universities, and expressed expectations for further strengthening cooperation.

Following this, Vice-President Lim Li Wah (Global Outreach and Engagement/ Deputy in Charge for Promotion of Diversity and Gender Equality/ Deputy in Charge for Library Management) provided an overview of Gifu University. It was followed by an introduction of the Organization for Promotion of Higher Education and Student Support (ORPHESS) by ORPHESS Vice Director-General, Professor TAKAHASHI Shuhei. The delegation also toured the Intelligent Production Technology Research & Development Center for Aerospace to observe cutting-edge research facilities.

During the subsequent luncheon and campus tour, the delegation, participants of the upcoming overseas practical training at UKM, and Gifu University students engaged in lively discussions on expanding student exchanges, future collaboration, and student life at Gifu University.

Through this exchange, ties between students and faculty of both universities have deepened further, and greater development of international exchange, including the Joint Degree Program, is anticipated.
