On Thursday, March 27, 2025, Gifu University and Srinakharinwirot University (SWU: Thailand) signed an inter-university academic exchange agreement. The signing ceremony was attended by the following Gifu University board members:
- President YOSHIDA Kazuhiro,
- Professor LIM Lee Wah, Vice President (Global Outreach and Engagement/ Deputy in Charge for Promotion of Diversity and Gender Equality/ Deputy in Charge for Library Management),
- Professor KOYAMA Hiroyuki, Executive Director of the Gifu University Organization for Promotion of Glocalization (GU-GLOCAL),
- Professor YAMADA Masahiro, Dean of the Faculty of Education,
- Professor NOMURA Yukihiro of the Faculty of Education, and
- Professor OBA Shinya of Gifu Field Science Center, Faculty of Applied Biological Sciences.
They welcomed a delegation of 33 members from SWU, including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cholvit Jearajit, President of Srinakharinwirot University.
The exchange between Gifu University and SWU began in March 2015 with the signing of a faculty-level agreement between the faculties of education of both universities. In August 2017, the Ministry of Education of Thailand and Gifu University jointly held the "1st International Symposium on Education for Persons with Special Needs: Transition from School to Work" in Bangkok. In December 2022, Professor Oba visited SWU to further strengthen the collaboration between the two universities. In January 2023, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kittichai Suthasinobon from the Faculty of Education, along with 12 graduate students from SWU, visited Gifu University and toured the Faculty of Education and the Gifu Field Science Center on campus.
Furthermore, in July 2024, a delegation of 10 faculty members and 16 students from SWU, led by SWU President, Associate Professor Dr. Somchai Santiwatanakul, visited Gifu University. They toured the facilities of the Faculty of Education and observed tomato cultivation by people with disabilities at the Gifu Field Science Center.
With the signing of the new inter-university agreement, Gifu University and SWU are committed to deepening academic exchange and promoting even more educational and research collaborations in the days to come.
