The Gifu University Organization for Promotion of Glocalization (GU-GLOCAL) is hosting its annual two-week inbound program, the "Winter School Program¹ 2025," from Wednesday, December 3 to Thursday, December 18, 2025. This year marks the ninth edition of the program since its inception.
GU welcomed seven students from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG, India) and two students from the National University of Malaysia (UKM, Malaysia). Both IITG and UKM are GU's overseas partner universities in implementing the Joint Degree Programs (JDP), which are jointly administered between GU and IITG, and between GU and UKM.
The theme of this year's program is "Studying the Science of Japanese Food." During their two-week stay, students had numerous opportunities to deepen their understanding of Japan. For example, they participated in the Gifu JDP Symposium 2025, held on Thursday, December 4 and Friday, December 5 on campus. They also attended special lectures on corporate Japan and visited companies introduced during those sessions. In addition, they interacted with GU students and local high school students in Gifu City. On the research front, they conducted experiments on tea leaves and Japanese food using specialized equipment and explored traditional Japanese cooking methods.
To further enhance their Japanese language skills and cultural understanding, students attended Japanese classes and took part in cultural activities such as a Juni-hitoe (twelve-layered kimono) workshop, as well as visits to a vinegar brewery and a tea plantation in Yaotsu Town, Gifu Prefecture.
On the final day, Thursday, December 18, students will present their experiences and achievements at the Accomplishment Reports and Closing Ceremony, concluding the Winter School Program 2025.
