Special Lecture by Dr. NAGASHIMA Miki

On Friday, August 23, 2024, Gifu University Organization for Promotion of Glocalization (GU-GLOCAL) hosted a special lecture on the SDGs¹⁾, featuring Dr. NAGASHIMA Miki, a board member of the SDGs Civil Society Network (SDGs Japan). The lecture took place in the TOIC Presentation Area (1F of OKB Gifu University Plaza) on campus. It was part of the Collaborative Video Making Program (CVMP²⁾) organized by GU-GLOCAL. Approximately 20 people, including program participants, students, and faculty members interested in the SDGs, attended the lecture.

In the first part of the lecture, titled "Beyond the Midpoint of the SDGs: Challenges to Transform Our World," Dr. Nagashima explained in Japanese the SDGs, which were unanimously adopted by all member countries at the 2015 UN "SDGs Adoption Summit," and are to be achieved by 2030. She also provided data not widely reported in Japan. In the second part, participants from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) and the National University of Malaysia (UKM), both member universities of CVMP, were connected online. Dr. Nagashima introduced activities carried out in Japan to achieve the SDGs in English.
Participants shared their impressions, noting that they became aware of issues not often covered by Japanese media, such as the shadow pandemic and droughts.
GU-GLOCAL will continue to carry out activities to promote international understanding among students and faculty.
The first part of the lecture is available on Glocal Lesson. Please click the link below to watch a streaming video.
