On Tuesday, June 14, 2022, five students from Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG, India) started their studies of “International Joint Department of Food Science and Technology between Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati and Gifu University (master’s)” at Gifu University.
“International Joint Department of Food Science and Technology between Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati and Gifu University” is one of four international joint degree programs (JDP) which were launched in 2019 among Gifu University, IITG and National University of Malaysia (UKM, Malaysia).
Five IITG students (1st year students of JDP) have been attending lectures and engaging in research activities since July 2021. The Government of Japan relaxed its border control in March 2022, and these five students arrived at the University on Tuesday, June 14 after undergoing all necessary infection prevention measures (photo 1). They are the first batch of students who arrived in Japan from India.
Five students will continue to study at GU by mid-October, attend lectures, take part in internship programs offered by Japanese companies, and engage in research activities under joint supervisions of Japanese and Indian instructors (photo 2).
On Wednesday, August 3, five students attended a special lecture on Japanese businesses and industries given by Specially Appointed Professor of Gifu University Organization for Promotion of Glocalization (GU-GLOCAL), Prof. Shinichi Miwa. They studied the current status of Tokai region in Japan and its major industries including aerospace business, car manufacturing and ceramics making (photo 3). Students are scheduled to join internship programs offered by Japanese companies from August to September, 2022.
JDP diploma will be conferred on the students when they complete all the curriculum in June 2023.
