On Thursday, March 18, 2021, Professor Yoshihiko Uematsu, Executive Director, GU GLOCAL attended “Inter-University Exchange Project: Platform Building Symposium (webinar)” hosted by Keio University.
The symposium consisted of two parts, and Professor Uematsu took part in Part 1 titled, “Toward the Establishment of Joint Degree Program (JDP) Committee.”
In the symposium, first, guest speakers made their presentations with regard to JDP and double-degree programs implemented by universities. In the following panel discussion, participants shared their views on various issues they are facing in program operations, and the future goals of JDP, etc.
Professor Uematsu gave a speech concerning GU’s JDP which was launched in April, 2019 with two overseas partners, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) and the National University of Malaysia (UKM), as well as its mission, achievements attained through close collaboration among industry-government-academia. We are expecting that JDP plays a significant role in this collaboration framework.
In the panel discussion, many questions were raised among participants including the officials from the Ministry of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan. Active discussions went on for some time over JDP operations and possibilities of launching new programs.
