Gifu University Organization for Promotion of Glocalization (GU-GLOCAL) hosted the 2026 Overseas Travel Risk Management Orientation. This orientation was organized for students, faculty, and staff planning to study abroad or travel overseas. Its purpose is to raise awareness of personal safety, help participants avoid becoming involved in incidents or accidents, and foster a broad understanding of risk management, including health and safety issues while abroad.
The orientation was moderated by Professor TATSUMI Toru, Director of the Study Abroad Promotion Division of GU-GLOCAL, and began with opening remarks by Professor KOYAMA Hiroyuki, Executive Director of GU-GLOCAL.
First, Dr. YAMAMOTO Mayumi, Director/Professor of the Health Administration Center at Gifu University, delivered a presentation on pre-travel vaccinations and health management while overseas. This was followed by a lecture by Mr. HATTORI Makoto, former board member of the Japanese Council for the Safety of Overseas Students (JCSOS), who spoke about the importance of risk awareness and safety measures. In addition, the Inbound and Outbound Student Affairs Section explained Gifu University’s procedures required before studying abroad. Mr. MATSUMOTO Takuya of Tokio Marine International Assistance Co., Ltd. introduced the JCSOS Total Assistance Service (J-TAS) support service. Finally, Mr. MATSUNO Toshiyuki of Tokio Marine TNP Tokai Hokuriku Branch provided information about the Study Abroad Insurance "Futai Kaigaku."
Participants listened attentively to presentations covering overseas incidents, security conditions in various countries, and comparisons between Japanese and overseas healthcare and insurance systems—topics that are not often considered in everyday life in Japan.
