Gifu University JDP Consortium Visits METI, JICA, and JETRO

On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, GU-GLOCAL, together with six participating companies from the JDP Consortium (a collaboration among industry, government, academia, and finance), visited the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) headquarters. The visit included an exchange of information on Gifu University's recent activities and the utilization of bamboo resources by each company.

The participating companies were:
- Taiyo Kagaku Co., Ltd.
- Marudai Ironworks Co.,Ltd.
- Long Term Industrial Development Co., Ltd.
- Amano Enzyme Inc.
- Nihon Nohyaku Co.,LTD., and
- Aonbarr Inc.

Professor EBIHARA Akio, GU-GLOCAL Associate Director, and Specially Appointed Professor MIWA Shinichi also from GU-GLOCAL presented updates on the Gifu JDP Symposium, collaborative activities with the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG), and the latest developments in the consortium's initiatives. The six companies introduced its business and activities in India, along with presentations on the utilization of bamboo resources.

Gifu University highlighted its efforts in joint degree programs (JDP) between Japan, India, and Malaysia, as well as support for international student employment. Regarding bamboo resource utilization, the university introduced its efforts to build a value supply chain and reported on the "Meet up Chubu vol. 641" event co-hosted with the Chubu Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry on June 12, where seven companies presented on biomass and bamboo resource applications. Plans for a JDP Symposium at IITG in March 2026 were also shared.

Mr. Shimano, Director of the Southwest Asia Division at METI's Trade Policy Bureau, and other officials expressed interest in strengthening ties through information exchange with consortium companies. They noted that the companies’ reports would be valuable in shaping Asia-related policy and that potential support from METI could be considered.

Similar presentations and discussions were held during visits to JICA and JETRO headquarters.

GU-GLOCAL plans to continue visiting to engage in dialogue and information exchange with METI, JICA, and JETRO.
