On December 6, 2024, the 'Gifu Joint Degree Symposium 2024' was held at the Institute for Glyco-core Research (iGCORE), Gifu University.
The Main Symposium hosted by the Tokai National Higher Education and Research System (THERS) was attended by 119 participants both in-person and online. At the beginning, Chancellor MATSUO Seiichi of THERS and Executive Trustee and Vice Chancellor YOSHIDA Kazuhiro (President of Gifu University) gave the opening remarks. This was followed by a keynote speech by Ms. TAKEDA Kuniko from the Higher Education Bureau of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, titled 'Promoting Student Mobility and Internationalization of Universities.'
In the subsequent panel discussion, representatives from Nagoya University, Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto Institute of Technology, and Gifu University discussed the ripple effects of Joint Degree Program (JDP) graduates within their institutions and future prospects. There was also an active exchange of opinions on how universities and the nation should support students.
In the afternoon, 95 participants attended the Industry-Government-Academia-Banking Institution Collaboration session hosted by Gifu University. The session, themed 'Challenges in Solving Global Issues through Glocalization,' included the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the companies that have cooperated with the JDP. In the subsequent panel discussion, specific initiatives related to the utilization of bamboo resources were introduced, leading to meaningful discussions about future developments of bamboo resources.
In the Faculty of Engineering, company booth exhibitions were held, showcasing specific initiatives and achievements of industry-academia collaboration, making it a fulfilling symposium throughout the day. Through this symposium, the importance of the JDP in the internationalization of education and research and regional revitalization was reaffirmed by the attendees.
Gifu University will continue to contribute to the promotion of regional internationalization centered on the JDP through activities such as hosting symposiums in the future.
