On Friday, October 2, 2026, Gifu University welcomed four students from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG), India, under the Glocal Expert Program (GEP¹). One student enrolled in the Graduate School of Engineering, while three joined the United Graduate School of Agricultural Science. In addition, one more student is scheduled to arrive in Japan on October 20 and enroll in the United Graduate School of Agricultural Science. This will bring the total number of IITG students accepted by Gifu University through the GEP to five for AY 2026.
During their approximately six-month stay through March 2027 at Gifu University, the students will conduct research in their respective fields under the supervision of Gifu University faculty members. Through their academic activities and daily life in Japan, they will also have opportunities to broaden their international perspectives and deepen their intercultural understanding.
The program offers a variety of educational and practical learning opportunities. In addition to conducting research in areas such as disaster prevention and mitigation, sustainable technologies, and food distribution systems, participants engage in company-based research activities, internships, and studies addressing global challenges. Students also enhance their expertise through on-demand courses available on Japan Virtual Campus (JV-Campus2), enabling them to further develop the knowledge, skills, and global competencies required of future leaders in an increasingly interconnected world.
1) an educational program for master's and doctoral students implemented as part of the MEXT’s Inter-University Exchange Project: Support for the Formation of Collaborative Programs with Universities in the Indo-Pacific Region and Beyond, jointly promoted by Gifu University and IITG, a partner institution that offers a Joint Degree Program (JDP) with Gifu University. Upon successful completion of the program, participants receive a joint certificate issued by both Gifu University and IITG.
2) a national online platform established by MEXT to promote international education and academic exchange through digital learning. It provides universities with a Moodle-based learning environment to offer online courses, share educational content globally, strengthen international engagement, and attract learners from around the world.
