On Monday, January 23, 2023, President YOSHIDA Kazuhiro of Gifu University attended the "First Japan-India University Forum" held in Tokyo.
The forum was hosted by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) under the title, "Active Academic Exchange between Japan and India, Agendas to Address: development of young talent for innovation." Presidents and representatives from 10 universities in India and 22 universities in Japan joined this in-person forum and discussed how to accelerate partnership between India and Japan.
In the first session of the forum, university presidents from both countries delivered a speech concerning successful examples and achievements in interchange between the two countries as well as future challenges to tackle for further facilitation of bilateral relationship in the future.
The second session began with a roundtable meeting where participants exchanged their opinions about how to develop young human resources, how to forge a strong partnership among universities in Japan and India. In both sessions, President Yoshida explained Gifu University's close relationship with the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG, Gifu University's partner university for Joint Degree Programs (JDP)), current state of JDP implementation. He also mentioned the program, "Education for Highly-Skilled Human Resources in Northeast India and Tokai Area based on Glocal JDP Platform" which is now under way as part of "FY2022 Inter-University Exchange Project" by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).
Prior to the start of the first session, President Yoshida met with Prof. Parameswar K. Iyer, Ph.D., Officiating Director of IITG, and exchanged their opinions about education and research collaboration between Gifu University and IITG.
Gifu University continues to bolster academic relationship with IITG, and hopes that the two universities' strong partnership can play a crucial role in building a dynamic, robust collaboration between Japan and India in the future.
