Tripartite Talk “Are you enjoying your learning? – Thinking about a “PhD” and “Japanese society from now on” with Prof. Mogi”

On Monday, October 11, 2021, Dr. Kenichiro Mogi, a senior researcher at Sony Computer Science Laboratories was invited as a guest speaker to the tripartite talk with President Hisataka Moriwaki of Gifu University and Professor Tetsuji Kume from the Faculty of Engineering of Gifu University. The talk was held at the university auditorium with 97 participants from Gifu University (students and academic and administrative staff) as well as 178 people who attended online (Zoom Webinar).

In the talk, three speakers exchanged opinions and shared their ideas about desired skills or aptitudes of people who are living in the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly from the viewpoints of brain science. They also discussed the future of Japanese society where people with PhD can take an active role in pursuing their studies and exploring their research themes.

Furthermore, each speaker spoke about how people with PhD are assessed or evaluated their skills/expertise in Japan and the world, challenges that researchers or scholars are tackling with great excitements. During the talk, many questions were raised from the audience both on and offline. At the end of the talk, all three speakers gave their strong words of encouragement to students who are hoping to study master’s or doctoral programs in the future.
