On Wednesday, March 6, 2024, President YOSHIDA Kazuhiro, Professor MOURI Tetsuya (Faculty of Engineering), and Associate Professor OZEKI Tomoe (Institute for Advanced Study), Gifu University were invited to attend the 'Reception of the 106th Anniversary of the Restoration of the State of Lithuania and the Independence Restoration Day' held in Tokyo.
The reception was hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to Japan, which was attended vice ministers of foreign affairs, finances and agriculture from Lithuania, the members of Japan-Lithuania Parliamentary Friendship Association, and the former Japanese ambassadors to Lithuania.
The reception commenced with opening remarks by His Excellency Dr. Aurelijus Zykas, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Japan, who spoke about the joy of conversing in Lithuanian without any constraints.
Later, the ambassador presented letters of appreciation to the individuals who have long dedicated themselves to fostering friendship between Lithuania and Japan. These distinguished individuals include Mr. MURASE Yukio, the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Lithuania in Gifu, and Professor Mouri from Gifu University.
Professor Mouri conducted research work at Kaunas University of Technology (Lithuania, GU's overseas partner university) from 2010 to 2011. Even after returning to Japan, he has maintained ongoing exchanges with people in Lithuania.
Since 2019, he has been hosting a 'Lithuania Study Meeting,' which is open to anyone on and off campus. The purpose of this meeting is to enhance people's understanding of Lithuania and its people. Additionally, as part of the Campus-Wide Core Curriculum (Zenkiyo), he currently teaches a course on cross-cultural theory (with a focus on Lithuania).
